Coding notes: 1-7; 0 = Record contains spaces, or codes not catered for
Notes: The 1970 Goldthorpe Classes were produced by Goldthorpe and Llewellyn by combining the 36 categories of the Hope-Goldthorpe scale to create a 7-point class schema whose members broadly share similar market and work situations. It is important to highlight that, as with the Hope-Goldthorpe Score, this class schema was devised for men. For cross-cultural comparisons Goldthorpe and Llewellyn (1987) suggests combining classes I and II, and classes V and VI. However, it is desirable to distinguish the agricultural component within classes IV and VII and, if possible, to separate small proprietors into those with and without employees.
