Coding notes: April 1971 - April 1981:
A, B, C, Z or space: indicate the position on the stillbirth draft of the immediately-following multiple cause code '(' indicates that the immediately-following multiple cause code provides additional information about the previous multiple cause code
A = the immediately-following multiple cause code is taken from line I(a) of the stillbirth draft.
B = the immediately-following multiple cause code is taken from line I(b) of the stillbirth draft.
C = the immediately-following multiple cause code is taken from line I(c) of the stillbirth draft.
Z = the immediately-following multiple cause code is taken from line II of the stillbirth draft
Space = Alpha code taken to be the same as that of the previous multiple cause code
Note: 1 'A' is always the first prefix 2 'A', 'B', 'C' and 'Z' prefixes appear only once per record and in the order shown, although they need not all be present 3 Space and '(' prefixes can appear any number of times after one of the alpha prefixes
