|Short description:||Place of birth of mother of new birth on sample date.|
|Coding notes:||The coding of MOPLBINB has used three distinct coding schemes: one from 1971 to 1991, one from 1992 to 2006 and one from 2007 onwards. It is therefore essential to use MOPLBINB in conjunction with BIYRANB (year of birth registration). Code is available at http://www.celsius.lshtm.ac.uk/derive/cobnbir.html to derive three separate variables from MOPLBINB (one for each coding scheme) and add labels to them.
A/ Within England and Wales - County (1st & 2nd digits) and County District of birth (3rd & 4th digits) (see 1971 Census Appendix 12), fifth digit='9'
B/ In Scotland - County and City (see Events Appendix 10), fifth digit='9'
C/ In Northern Ireland - County and County borough (see Events Appendix 10), fifth digit='9'
D/ Places outside UK - first two digits '99', third and fourth characters coded to country of birth 1W-9W (see 1981 Census Appendix 4 ),fifth digit blank
Last two characters coded to country of birth 1W-9W as above. First three characters set to Spaces (see 1981 Census Appendix 4)
|Notes:||From April 1991 onwards usual residence codes are OGSS codes, not STATS or CENSUS codes.
