Coding notes:
Notes: The Hope-Goldthorpe scale was devised for use in the Oxford Mobility Study. Occupations were ranked by a sample of adults from the Oxford Electoral Register according to their general desirability as men's occupations. These occupational groups were then collapsed into 36 categories, which were arranged into rank order of desirability. The categories are assumed to provide a high degree of differentiation in terms of both occupational function and employment status. A discussion of the methods involved
