Variable: RECTYPE
Table: LBSM
Short description: LS member's live birth record - births to sample mothers.
Full description:
Coding notes: 52 = live births to sample mothers
Notes: The first and second decade Births to Sample Mothers files were reformatted using VME cobol before transfer to Model 204 The files before reformat contained one record per maternity, but were amended to contain one record per birth Each record on the input file was read, and if one baby was born the complete record was written to output The multiple birth code variable MLCSABM was read and used to allocate extra records in the case of multiple births It was not possible to complete the full details for the additional birth records If the additional referred to a stillbirth, there is no stillbirth information available If MLCSABM=00-99, either one or two additional records were created and all variables from the input record moved except REDIABM, RESUABM, REENABM, SEXABM, BWEGRBM, CHOSEBM and NHSNOBBM (SEXABM and CHOSEBM were allocated later in the reformat process) Unlike the multiple birth codes for twins and triplets, multiple birth code 99 (4+ births) doesn't indicate sex or birth outcome After investigation it was agreed to transfer all birth outcome 99s to the live birth record All variables for the additional records were transferred except REDIABM, RESUABM, REENABM, SEX ABM, BWEGRBM, CHOSEBM, NHSNOBBM (CHOSEBM was set to 'Not selected' at a later stage ). Live and stillbirths were separated into different files. Multiple birth records containing live and stillbirth outcomes were allocated to the appropriate file.
