|General description:||The 1991 Census classification of ethnic group comprises 35 categories in its full form.|
There were seven pre-coded categories on the census form. A further 28 categories were derived from the multi-ticking of boxes and written descriptions in the ‘Black Other’ and ‘Any other ethnic group’ categories.
The output classification is generally condensed to ten categories, and in some cases to four groups: ‘White’, ‘Black’, ‘Indian, ‘Pakistani and Bangladeshi’, ‘Chinese and other groups’.
